Comacchio and its Spa
Enchantment of land and water
Comacchio is the most original and fascinating lagoon town in the Po Delta Park: an intact old-town centre, crossed by a network of channels and surrounded by splendid lagoons and an area of over 11,000 hectares of lakes, rises and saltpans which form part of an Environmental Museum open to the public. Heir of the ancient Spina, fought over for many years by the people of Ferrara and Ravenna, by Popes and Emperors, it has ancient origins: it was built in the early Middle Ages, when the initial settlement was established on a chain of little islands in the developing mouth of the River Po.
Now Comacchio is an enchanting lagoon town: it is courteous and authentic, with a vitality that draws lymph from the respect of its history and the desire to make the most of it. A widespread splendour reminds us of its vicinity to the sea, the light of which fills the urban spaces, strengthened further by the still surfaces of the channels.
The extensive equipped beaches of the Lidi di Comacchio, bordering on the Po Delta Regional Park, represent one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Adriatic, where a remarkable natural environment is accompanied by top quality hospitality. It is with a varied and complete range of tourist attractions and facilities that Comacchio welcomes those who wish to combine the enjoyment of a health-giving holiday with a cultural note, exploration of nature and the flavours of the wetlands and the sea.
